A Message from SOEST’s Representative to
the Associated Students of the University of Hawai‘i (ASUH)

Hi, and welcome to the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology!

My name is Mike Theune, and I am the SOEST representative to the Associated Students of the University of Hawai‘i (ASUH), the undergraduate student senate. As I enter my second year in office, I have had the pleasure of sitting on committees that have given scholarships and research awards to undergraduate students, spent time looking at the budget of both ASUH and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa to see how they spend your student fees, and even was a part of the group that pushed for the audit of Student Housing. Looking into this upcoming 2006–2007 academic term, I want to push for a more unified recycling front on campus, more research awards and scholarships going to SOEST undergrads, and making this campus a more visible and beautiful place.

I currently sit on two major UHM committees that look at upcoming projects for the Mānoa campus. They are the Campus Environment Committee, under the Office of the Chancellor, and the Executive Housing Committee, in charge of building the new student dorm that will replace Frear Hall.

I am here as your representative, so I encourage you all to contact me with any questions, comments, or issues that you want to have addressed with the university. I can be reached at either my e-mail address theune@hawaii.edu or by phone at 956-4822.

I look forward to meeting you, wish you good luck in the upcoming term.
